The Best Homemade Cheesy Crackers

Updated: Jan 7, 2021

These are great to make for friends as a small snack or appetizer. My good friend made this for me for a long road trip we were taking together and I absolutely loved them. I have been obsessed with making these crackers ever since. If I have cheese and heavy cream in my house I will make these. I double this recipe to have two containers of crunchy tasty crackers because these go so fast in my house. I grew up eating cheesy crackers and it is a go-to snack for me. This recipe is fun to make and they taste like homemade cheez-its. There are many variations of these crackers you can try like a blue cheese cracker or peppered cracker.

Cheesy Crackers

Serving Size: 30 crackers (small box of crackers)

Total Time: 45 minutes

Source: Recipe adapted from SmittenKitchen.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, more as needed

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup finely grated fresh Parmesan cheese

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1/4 cup cream or half-and-half, more as needed

Step 1: Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet for the crackers.

Step 2: Crumble with your hand's flour, salt, cheese, and chunks of butter in a bowl until crumbly mixture.

Step 3: Add about 1/4 cup cream or half-and-half mix until a dough forms. If it does not come together, add more liquid until the mixture holds together but is not sticky.

Step 4: Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface until 1/4-inch thick or even thinner, adding flour as needed. Cut using a pastry cutter or pizza cutter (or a regular sharp knife) into a cracker dough. Transfer crackers to a baking sheet. Sprinkle sea salt and or pepper, if desired.

Step 5: Bake until browned, about 12 minutes. Cool on a rack. These crackers can sit for about a few days stored in an airtight container. Best eaten day of.
