Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies

Updated: Mar 10, 2021

I was pleasantly surprised when I mixed tahini in my chocolate chip cookies. These cookies are nutty and sweet. They are the perfect cookie to eat for a cookie treat!

I love cooking with tahini sauce in many of my main dishes especially a stir fry or a salad dressing. I have never tried tahini in my cookies and WOW! It tastes amazing! My partner was addicted to these cookies when I made them. The flavors pair so well together and the cookie comes out soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.

What is Tahini? Why does it taste so good in these cookies?

Tahini is a classic middle eastern condiment that is toasted ground sesame seeds that forms a smooth paste. Tahini is one of my favorite ingredients. It has this salty nutty and creamy flavor that is perfect in a chocolate chip cookie.

This recipe is great to make if you want to add an extra element to your chocolate chip cookie. Tahini isn't a nut so you don't have to worry about serving these cookies to anyone who has a nut allergy. Make sure the Tahini you buy is a smooth and creamy consistency. It shouldn't be a dry thick paste. I often have to mix mine in the jar similar to almond butter to get all the extra oil to mix together.

Why are these cookies so tasty?

These cookies are absolutely PERFECT! The texture is thin and crispy with a gooey center. Look at those large chocolate chunks. They just melt in your mouth.

I love that the center is soft and gooey. But you still get that crunch on the outside. You won't be able to stop eating these cookies. They are one of the kind cookies. Try them out!

Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies

Serving Size: 24 cookies

Total Time: 1 hour

Source: Adapted from broma bakery

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

  • 1 1/2 cup light brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup tahini

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour

  • 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate, roughly chopped

Step 1: In a standing mixer with a paddle attachment, cream together butter, brown sugar, and sugar until fluffy. Add in eggs and mix together. Add in tahini, vanilla extract, and salt and cream until light and fluffy.

Step 2: Mix in baking soda and flour until just combined. Fold in chopped chocolate until combined.

Step 3: Remove dough from the bowl, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes or so.

Step 4: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Roll cookie dough into 2 inch balls and place on cookie sheets, leaving 2 inches between each cookie. 5 minutes into baking bang the cookies sheet on the wrack to flatten the cookies slightly. Bake for a total of 10-12 minutes, until cookies are the slightest bit golden around the edges. It is ok if the cookies look slightly underbaked, they will cook as they cool. When you take out the cookies bang the baking sheet on the counter one last time to get nice ridges in the cookies. Allow cookie to cool on cookie sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Add flakey sea salt on top for an extra kick and enjoy!
