Oreo Brownies

The story behind these brownies...

I love brownies! There aren't many ingredients in brownies but it can be challenging to make the perfect brownie. I have searched and tried many recipes and still, I have not found the perfect one. I will continue searching and trying brownie recipes to find the perfect brownie that I enjoy. This recipe is still delicious! These brownies are rich and cakey and they are filled with so much chocolate flavor. I love adding in mix-ins to my cookies and brownies and these have one of my favorite mix-ins, OREOS! Who doesn't love an Oreo cookie? I can't keep Oreo cookies in my house because they go so fast. I made these brownies because I had extra Oreo cookies and I knew they would taste amazing in this batch of brownies.

This recipe brownie base is definitely one of my favorite recipes because the brownies come out tasting so scrumptious. They are fudgy, chocolatey, and filled with so many OREOS. If you love Oreo's you have to try these brownies. I made a brownie ice cream sandwich with these brownies and it was a huge hit with my friends. Ice cream, chocolate, and Oreos' what is not to love in that combination!

What are Oreo Brownies?

Brownies are DELICIOUS and one of my favorite desserts to eat. These Oreo brownies are my new favorite brownie recipes. Oreo brownies are what you think they are, a chocolatey batter base with crushed Oreos mixed into the batter and Oreos on top. The oreo's melt in the batter as you bake which makes these brownies extra chocolatey and a little bit creamy. Once you try these brownies, you won't want to eat a traditional brownie again. They are just so Damn Good!

A few tips to success:

  • Cocoa powder - use high-quality rich cocoa powder for this brownie recipe. I promise it will make a huge difference and you will notice it especially if you are a chocolate lover like me. I use Valhrona and I order it on Amazon.

  • Vanilla - make sure you use the vanilla in this recipe. It makes all the difference in this recipe!

  • Oreos - I crushed the Oreos by putting the cookies in a plastic bag and smashing them on the counter. It is a very therapeutic exercise and makes the perfect crushed Oreo mixture.

  • Baking the brownies - make sure not to over-bake the brownies because they can come out dry and too cakey. You can take out the brownies when a knife or toothpick comes out clean from the edges but a little gooey from the center. You want a crispy edge and a gooey center.

  • Storage - these brownies will last the week stored in an air-tight container on the counter or in the fridge. You can also freeze these brownies if you want them to last a few months!

Rich Oreo Brownies

Serving size: 16 - 24 brownies

Total Time: 1 hour

Source: Adapted from broma bakery

  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter

  • 2 1/2 cups light brown sugar

  • 4 large eggs, room temperature

  • 1 1/2 cups cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2/3 cup whole wheat flour

  • 16 Oreo cookies, crumbled into pieces

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and line a 9x9 pan with parchment paper and set aside.

Step 2: In a bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Then whisk the butter and sugar together. Allow mixture to cool slightly. Mix in the eggs until the mixture lightens in color slightly. Add in cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla extract. Fold in flour until just combined. Fold in the crushed Oreo's.

Step 3: Pour mixture into prepared baking pan and bake for roughly 45 minutes, testing for doneness by inserting a knife into the center of the brownies beginning at 40 minutes. It might take up to 55 minutes for them to cook through. When the knife comes out clean the brownies are ready. The cooking time will vary based on the size of the dish you use. Thicker brownie pans will cook longer. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream and enjoy!
