The inspiration...

I can never resist a good classic chocolate chip cookie and especially a chocolate chip cookie with Nutella swirled in. Everyone loves Nutella because chocolate and hazelnut flavor is the perfect combination. I am convinced you can add Nutella to anything and it will make it taste good.

I made these cookies for my family friends and it was a huge hit. They could not stop eating these cookies. I am not going to lie these cookies are very addicting to eat. You may have to double this batch because these cookies go fast! I have gotten into this habit of baking double batches of my cookie dough so that I can have extra cookies throughout the week. I love having freshly baked cookies at the ready in my kitchen. A small freshly baked cookie after a long day is exactly what I need to end a long workday. The dough will be on the drier side when you swirl in the Nutella. Don't worry about that. The Nutella melts in the oven while the cookies spread and it forms the perfect soft center.

A few tips ...

  • Extra chocolate chips - I love lots of chocolate in my chocolate chip cookies because I want a chocolate chip in every bite. Often a trick I use is, is to chop up a block of chocolate to get chocolate chunks in my cookies.

  • Nutella - use 3 large scoops of Nutella to swirl into the cookie dough. You want the Nutella to be lightly mixed into the cookie dough so you can get that beautiful swirl look.

  • Freezing the cookie dough - I freeze all my cookie dough before I bake it because it solidifies the cookie dough. Mixing all the ingredients into a bowl warms up the cookie dough and it can cause extra spreading in the oven. Freezing or refrigerating the dough can help prevent too much spreading of the cookies in the oven.

Serving size: 20 cookies

Total Time: 1 hour

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 3 tablespoon Nutella, melted

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: In a mixing bowl with a stand mixer attachement, cream the butter and sugars for about 3 minutes until combined.

Step 3: Mix into the bowl the egg and vanilla extract for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth.

Step 4: Fold in the flour, salt, and baking soda until the cookie dough forms. The dough mixture will appear on the drier side. Then, fold in the chocolate chips until evenly throughout. Finally, pour in the melted butter and gently fold the cookie dough to form swirls. Don't over mix this step.

Step 5: Let the dough sit in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. When ready, scoop 1 tablespoon of cookie dough onto a baking sheet for each cookie. Bake for 10 minutes, until cookies are golden brown around the edges. Let the cookies cool and enjoy!
