The inspiration...

For Halloween-inspired cookies, I polled my friends and asked what kind of dessert would they want for Halloween. When I ask my friends, everyone said they think of orange and black colors. I imagined my friends listing off all different kinds of candies and sugary treats. I even thought my friends would want something creepy looking filled with spiders. There was not one person of my friends who said anything about spooky treats or delicious sweet candies.

These cookies are inspired by the colors of Halloween, orange, and black. M&M's are a popular candy, no matter if they are in a bag, in cookies, or even in popcorn! I love that M&Ms come in so many different colors. Every season you can find different themed M&Ms and always around Halloween you find M&Ms in orange and black. These cookies are filled with rich chocolatey flavor and colored with many orange and black M&Ms. These cookies are ridiculously good! I was eating them for a week after I made them. They are so festive and fun to bring for a Halloween celebration. They will match the colors of any Halloween-themed party.

A few tips:

  • Baking cookies - I bake my cookies for a little less time in the oven because I prefer my cookies gooey in the center. However, I always make sure I check the cookies at 10 minutes and then add more time if I think the cookies need more time. I have baked in many different kitchens and cookies will bake differently in different ovens. I would recommend always check your cookies at 10 minutes, once the cookies are puffed up in the center and browned on the edges they are ready to take out.

  • M&Ms - you can add any color M&M in this chocolatey base cookie and it will still taste delicious! Place extra M&M's on top to get a beautiful final look of those orange M&Ms.

  • Prep the cookie dough - I sometimes like to freeze the cookie dough for 10-15 minutes before baking after I have already scooped the cookies. I think this helped with the baking process to make sure the cookies rise properly.

  • Storage - these cookies will still taste delicious for a week in an air-tight container.
