Beer can solve all your problems when you are in a jam and you are craving some cheesy bread! This recipe is so simple and so easy. It is one of my favorites to make. It is so yummy and fresh. The bread will last about a week.
During the pandemic, it was very hard for me to find yeast at my local grocery store. It seemed like the whole world claimed bread baking as a new hobby. I whipped up this delicious cheesy beer bread without any YEAST! There was no rising time, no additional equipment, and no kneading. This bread tastes even better warmed up with butter spread on each slice. Enjoy!
Baking Beer Bread:
Beer - dark and heavy beers contain tons of yeast that allow for baking a quick bread. I used a Guinness beer for this recipe but there are many options you can use to make a quick bread. Use your favorite beer to see how the flavor will come out in a bread.
Texture - beer bread will form a different consistency and texture than traditional yeasted bread. It will be more crumbly, dense, hearty.
Alcoholic concerns - a large amount of alcohol is cooked away when baking this bread. If you are concerned about baking with alcohol you can look for a non-alcoholic heavy beer.
Muffins - if you want bread mini cakes on the go you can bake the batter in a muffin tin. This recipe will make about 12 muffin cakes and it will bake in a shorter time frame, about 15 minutes.
Mix-ins - for this recipe, I used cheddar cheese to mix into the batter. There are a ton of other mix-ins you can try out to this bread. You can add chives, different cheese, or other seasonings. Try out your favorite combination in this bread!
Storage of the bread:
I found the bread best eaten the first day after baking however, it will last for the week in an air-tight container.
You can pre-slice the bread and freeze the slices to have for another day. All you would need to do is to toast the bread and serve with a little butter to moisten the bread slice.
Cheesy Beer Bread
Service Size: 1 Loaf of Bread
Total Time: 55 minutes
Source: Recipe adapted from Cookie Madness.
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 (12 ounces) bottle beer preferably a dark ale (Fat Tire or Guinness is my preference)
1-2 large handfuls of grated cheddar cheese or Mexican cheese
5 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray with oil a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
Step 2: Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the beer, stir until mixed add mixture into the loaf pan. Pour melted butter over the top (or you can add the melted butter to the mixture. Adding the butter to the top will create a golden brown shine to the surface).
Step 3: Bake for 60 minutes or until a fork comes out clean. Remove from pan and let cool.
